Francis Henry (Harry) Black, O.B.E., F.C.A.

Retired, Senior partner, F.H. Black & Co. Chartered Accountants, 208-211 Public Utilities Bldg., Port Arthur, Ont., with offices at Fort William and Winnipeg.

Director, Steep Rock Iron Mines Ltd; Commissioner, Lakehead Harbour Commissioners; Chairman, Lakehead Advisory Board, Royal Trust Company.

Born Campbellford, Ont., Feb 12, 1895, son of Daniel and Bridget (Gibson) Black, both of Campbellford, Ont. Educated: public and high schools, Campbellford: Queen's University.

With the Bank of British North America, 1912-16; joined Toronto Office of Macintosh & Hyde, 1916, and appointed Manager of their Port Arthur office, 1919; became local partner of firm, 1924; purchased Port Arthur, Fort William and Winnipeg business under name of Black, Hanson & Co., 1926: formed the firm of F.H. Black & Co., 1950.

Served overseas with Corps Cyclist Batt. Inn World War I. Appointed Member of War Contracts Depreciation Board, Aug., 1940; Chairman, 1943; Chairman, Special Names Committee, Port Arthur, 1940-45; Past President: Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce; Rotary Club of Port Arthur; Community Chest of Port Arthur; Past President, Northwestern Ontario Associated Chamber of Commerce.

Awarded O.B.E., July 1, 1946.

Married Floreda Anderson, daughter of Frederick Anderson Port Arthur, Aug 21, 1920; has four sons and four daughters. Clubs: Rotary (Past President); Port Arthur Golf & Country; The Fort William, Society: Knights of Columbus. Recreations: golf, fishing and hunting. Liberal. Roman Catholic.
