Canada's unemployment rate has emerged as another casualty of the ever-weakening economy. Statistics Canada reports that the unemployment rate in January jumped from 6.6% to 7.2% exceeding any monthly decline in recent history.
Of the 129,000 jobs lost in January:
- Manufacturing accounted for 101,000;
- The core age group (adults aged 25 to 54) lost 111,000.
