Human Resources Generalist

We have partnered with a housing and care organization that provides accommodation for adult citizens. They provide support that looks at the whole person, not just their mental health needs, but consider their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing. 

They are seeking a proactive and strategic HR Generalist to play a key role in building and strengthening our HR function. Working closely with our outsourced HR provider, this position will be responsible for executing the HR strategic plan, driving process improvements, developing policies, and establishing HR best practices to support organizational growth and employee engagement. The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, and comfortable balancing strategic initiatives with day-to-day HR operations.

Reporting directly to the Controller, the HR Generalist will support managers and staff with day-to-day HR needs, ensure compliance with legislation, and contribute to a positive workplace culture. This role will assist with recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and general HR administration, while helping build the foundational processes and practices needed for the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Execute and support the HR strategic plan, aligning HR initiatives with overall business objectives.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within HR operations and implement efficient solutions.

  • Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures in line with best practices and legal requirements.

  • Assist in building an HR department by establishing workflows, documentation, and reporting structures.

  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on HR matters including performance management, employee relations, and compliance.

  • Participate in union negotiations and support managers by interpreting and administering collective agreements, handling grievances and disciplinary matters, and helping develop or update related HR policies and documentation.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and talent management initiatives.

  • Maintain HR metrics and reporting to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.

  • Promote a positive workplace culture and employee engagement initiatives.

What We're Looking For:

  • Post secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in generalist roles.

  • Experience in a unionized environment would be considered an asset.

  • CPHR or CPHR student considered a strong asset.

  • Knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices.

  • Experience in process improvement, policy development, and building HR frameworks.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work on-site.
