Volunteer Supervisor
We have partnered with a well-established Winnipeg-based non-for-profit museum and cultural organization seeking a Volunteer Supervisor to lead and coordinate its volunteer program. This role is responsible for fostering a positive, engaging, and professional experience for both volunteers and visitors while supporting the organization’s community-focused initiatives and guest experience.
Reporting to the CEO, the Volunteer Supervisor oversees volunteer scheduling, recruitment, communication, onboarding support, training coordination, and day-to-day guidance for volunteers across museum operations and events. The successful candidate will be an approachable and proactive leader who enjoys building relationships, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on volunteer engagement.
Working closely with internal teams such as marketing, programming, and events, this position plays an important role in supporting public programming, special events, and community outreach initiatives both on-site and throughout Winnipeg.
What You'll Do:
Coordinate and oversee the daily operations of the volunteer program;
Schedule, and support volunteers to ensure appropriate coverage and engagement using scheduling and database systems;
Coordinating the recruitment, screening, onboarding, and orientation of volunteers to support museum operations, programs, and events;
Provide leadership, direction, mentorship, and guidance to volunteers while fostering a positive and inclusive environment;
Communicate effectively with volunteers regarding schedules, events, updates, and organizational expectations;
Support event planning and execution in collaboration with the marketing and events teams;
Participate in off-site events, including community outreach opportunities and career fairs, as required;
Assist with administrative tasks and reporting related to volunteer operations;
Ensure adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines;
Contribute to a professional, welcoming, and visitor-focused atmosphere throughout the museum;
Work independently while also collaborating effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams.
What We're Looking For:
Previous experience in volunteer coordination is required;
Experience managing or supervising a diverse workforce is an asset;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with volunteers, staff, and visitors;
Friendly, personable, and confident approach to leadership;
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, provide direction, and manage responsibilities effectively;
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail;
Positive attitude with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities;
Ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and age groups, including seniors;
Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends for events and operational needs;
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle due to occasional off-site event participation;
Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
Proficiency with volunteer management software, specifically Volunteer Impact/My Impact software is considered an asset.
